In a bid to uplift grassroots boxing in Nigeria and beyond, the non-governmental organization Gloves For Africa has pledged its unwavering support.
Founder Chuks Uwaechia shared this commitment during an interview with SGS Global Sport at an exhibition in Lagos on November 19, 2023. The event showcased talented boxers, recognizing their skills and presenting awards.
Uwaechia outlined the foundation’s mission to instill hope in grassroots boxers, giving rise to the impactful “10000 Gloves” campaign. This initiative aims to procure and distribute 10,000 gloves to aspiring boxers across Nigeria and Africa, fostering inspiration for future champions.
“The 10000 Gloves campaign is our initiative to collect and distribute 10,000 gloves to boxers across Nigeria and Africa. Our vision is to inspire these athletes, fueling their journey to becoming world champions,” he explained.
The campaign, launched on social media, has garnered attention from international boxing clubs. Uwaechia shared that the foundation received substantial support, including 200 gloves and headgear, from various corners of the globe.
“Our social media efforts attracted donations from international boxing clubs worldwide. We’ve received approximately 200 gloves, headgear, and other items. The response has been overwhelming,” he remarked.
Looking ahead, Gloves For Africa plans to extend its support to other African countries, with initiatives scheduled for Ghana and Uganda in 2024.
“In the coming months, we’ll be establishing similar projects in Ghana and Uganda. Our goal is to create a ripple effect, reaching aspiring boxers across the African continent,” Uwaechia added.
He envisions Gloves For Africa becoming a conduit for international boxing bodies to connect with emerging talent in Africa.
“Our aspiration is that international bodies, including major brands like Nike and Adidas, will partner with us to promote their brand and uplift grassroots boxing,” he expressed.
During the event, boxer Riliwan Babatunde, who received an award, expressed gratitude for the foundation’s support.
“Today’s event has propelled boxing in Nigeria forward. I believe it will inspire other boxers to push their boundaries. I pray that the organizers receive more grace to continue their impactful work,” he shared.

It is pretty worth enough for me. Personally, if all webmasters and bloggers made good content as you did, the internet will be much more useful
